“I’m Anxious About” Podcast Featured in Forbes!
Podcasting has been a passion of mine for a number of years now, but I can’t say that I ever thought that it would be a podcast that would land me a shout-out in Forbes Magazine.
To that point, I’m not sure I ever thought that anything I created would get me a mention in Forbes, but certainly not the relatively new podcast that I Co-created with my dear friend, Allison Green.
But, lo and behold, last week Allison messaged me with something along the lines of, “HOLY SH*T.”
I figured the news I was about to receive would either be impossibly positive, or utterly soul crushing, and I’m rather grateful that it was indeed the former.
I’m Anxious About had been featured on a list of inspiring podcasts related to travel and culture. If you’re a listener of IAA, you’ll know that it’s more a humorous mental health podcast (is that an oxymoron?) than anything else. That being said, Allison and I are both travel writers, so we do talk travel and culture an inordinate amount for a mental health podcast.
Either way - we’ll take it, right?
What Did Forbes Say About I’m Anxious About?
Firstly, I should note that, in this article, Forbes tapped a number of different influential people and thought leaders on the shoulder to choose a podcast that they thought fit the bill. And, that “bill,’ as I mentioned above, was “inspiring podcasts that talked about travel and culture,” but also went a lot deeper than just travel and culture. Almost all the podcasts that were mentioned seem to relate to travel, but they also seem to have an aim that’s deeper than simply “go travel,” if you know what I mean.
Travel writer and digital marketer, Megan Starr, was the person who gave us our shout-out, and I couldn’t be more thankful.
In particular, she highlights Episode 10 from Season 1, which is “I’m Anxious About Airports.” Megan notes, “it basically discusses the travel issues we are all thinking but too embarrassed to admit for fear we are the only ones with the thoughts! There is a part where they discuss getting on the plane quickly in fear of luggage not fitting and this is genuinely one of my biggest stressors when traveling.”
I’ll embed that particular episode for anyone keen to give it a listen.
What she says next in the Forbes article is perhaps the most touching part of all, at least it is to me as one of the hosts.
“The podcast, in general, goes over several experiences that can cause anxiety (from public transportation to airports and more) and it makes me feel a bit more 'in good company' with the things that cause me anxiety when on the road, or even in everyday life. I highly recommend checking out 'I'm Anxious About’ for a good laugh and to realize that, 'Hey, we are all in this together!’”
We feel like we’re just getting started as to what we can do with this podcast and, hopefully, the positive impact we can have, so it was a tremendous honour to get a nod in a publication of this stature this early on.
Starting this podcast, I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t nervous about publicly admitting that I myself do struggle with anxiety at times. But the truth is that we all have our struggles, and knowing that sharing my own struggle might help someone else means a great deal to me, and I know it does to Allison as well. The main reason a mention like this excites me to the core is understanding that it may enable us to broaden our audience and community (and thus, impact) even further, and, to me, that’s what it’s all about.
Thanks to Megan, Forbes, and to our listeners for validating our hard work and efforts, and making it an easy choice to continue to pour our heart and soul into this project.
